Aubrey Carrigan of Queensland came to the Club in 1952 having taken a score of 169 off the West Indies in 1951/52, and having 100 against MCC in Brisbane on the 1949/50 tour when he was
dropped by J J Warr before he had scored. His salary amounted to £20 per week plus cost of passage from Australia for his family and himself. He had topped the Queensland averages and had scored
a double century for his club side, Toombul, in Brisbane.
He was a right arm fast medium bowler and a right hand bat, and in his one season, scored 719 runs at 51.3 and took 42 wickets at 20.5. He was a motivator, and his motivation, drive and emphasis on fielding laid a
good foundation for the side which came second in the League in 1953 with the Indian P R Umrigar as professional.
